What is Ryu in Ninjutsu?

Learn about Ryu from Sensei Oliver Martin in this Howcast ninjutsu video.

You’ll notice that on the end of the schools, these traditional schools of Kobudo, you’ll notice the term Ryu, which denotes a tradition or even a family, and many times there is a clear succession or a lineage of "soke" to soke, or grand master, or head of the school from one generation to the next and so a Ryu or Ryu-ha is sort of a body of knowledge or a school that can be passed down usually within a family but can also be, but by no means is restricted to just a biological family. It can be passed on to different types of people. That’s just a little bit about what a Ryu is as it relates to Japanese martial arts schools.
