What Is an Addiction Intervention?

Learn what an addiction intervention is from Dr. Paul Hokemeyer in this Howcast video.

Intervention is a concept that we've become very familiar with, because of the TV show, and we see how people who suffer from addictions are intervened upon. Somebody comes into their lives and tells them that they have a problem. The reason why this is important, is because addictions are chronic, aggressive and fatal. Addiction intervention's impact the chronic nature of it, so that they persist. Chronic means that something persists, and without being intervened upon the person will continue to engage in their addictive behavior. So essentially, an intervention is when someone or something comes in to the person who's suffering from the addiction or the drug abuse situation, and interrupts that progression and the persistence of their illness.
