Hi, I'm Sifu Romaine. Welcome to our demonstration of shaolin warm ups and stretching. To begin with, we are going to start through a basic class. Included in the class will be our stretching and some of our conditioning as well. Let's begin.
We will start the class. Mr. Robinson will demonstrate. Jumping jacks are a great way to warm up the muscles and prepare them for class before you begin techniques. Of course, pushups are great to build strength in the arms as well as work the core muscles. Crunches to work the core as well. From here, we're going to some basic martial arts techniques.
Now from here, we're going to go into some basic stretching that we call horse stance stretch first and then drop stance stretch as well. Now when you bend your knees, you want to keep your arms inside the knees so you can stretch the groin area as well. Now, this is a drop stance stretch. Here again, you want the arm on the inside. You want your weight toward your front leg. You want that front knee locked out, you want both feet flat as you stretch toward your front foot. Just switch to the other side for me. Again, you want to try to drop the butt as low as you can; try to raise the head up. This will give you good flexibility and help you get into your drop stances.
Now we're going to do some stretch kicks to demonstrate flexibility and it's another way that we prepare in the classroom as we warm up. Each one of these stretch kicks will work different muscle groups so it's very important to make sure that the body is fully prepared for training. This is a great way to warm up before your class.
