Hi, I'm Patrick Weisel. In this section we're going to be talking about the
very broad topic of how to maintain your lawn.
The first thing you have to ask yourself is what kind of lawn do you want?
Do you want something that's highly manicured? Do you want something that's
a little more naturalistic looking, or do you just want the base minimum
that doesn't tick your neighbors off and say, "Hey, why don't you mow your
So, at the very least, no matter what kind of lawn you want, you're going
to have to cut it because otherwise turf grass in its natural state gets up
about 12 inches tall, and that won't pass the mustard in most
neighborhoods. So you're going to need a lawnmower. If you want the very
minimum then, the second thing you're going to have to have, if you want a
little better quality, is you're going to need a sprinkler, and then you
might consider having fertilizer to have a better lawn. You might consider
also putting down some chemical applications to control weeds, if you want
something really manicured.
Now the more you do, the more effort and time that's going to take on your
part. So if you want something really manicured, you might just consider
hiring a lawn care professional or a lawn care company to do that work for
you. But if all you want is just a sort of average neighborhood lawn, you
can do that. All you need is a lawnmower, a spreader, and a little sweat.
