As a rule of thumb, your turf needs an inch of water per week, and a good way to think about your sprinkler system is helping mother nature, not replacing it.
There will be some rainfall, but if the rain is less than one inch, then your sprinkler system needs to take up the slack. But be careful, you don't want to over-water the turf, because that's equally bad as under- watering. So, make sure that you adjust your sprinkler system throughout the year, so that you don't over-water, and merely helping Mother Nature not replacing her.
