How to Get Followers on Twitter & Facebook

Learn how to get more followers on Twitter and Facebook from celebrity publicist Kelly Brady in this Howcast video.

A lot of people always ask, “How do I get more Twitter followers and more Facebook friends?”

There really isn't a clear-cut formula on how to do that, but I can give you some tips that seem to have worked. You just start out by being witty and engaging, like have something interesting to say. If you are a funny Twitter, people are going to want to follow you. If you post interesting pictures, people are going to want to follow you or be your Facebook friend.

Another way to gain friends and followers is to be interactive. If you follow them, they will follow you back. There is that great give and take. You can also enlist one of your friends who has a lot of friends and followers, and on Follow Friday, ask them to ask their followers to follow you. Ask their Facebook friends to friend you.

I think it really boils down to being engaging and having something interesting to say. If you have something interesting to say and you engage, people are going to want to follow you. If you have people who are friends with a lot of Twitter followers endorsing you, endorsements are great. They are going to want to follow you. Re-Tweets are great, because when people re-Tweet you, that opens up to a whole other set of followers who could possibly follow you. It's just being really active on social media. The more active you are, the more follows you will get.

Another way to get more Twitter followers and Facebook followers is when you do a news article, if there is a way to sneak it in your Twitter handle or your Facebook page, do it! I mean, there is a lot of internet articles that would not mind listing your Twitter handle in conjunction with your website. That's another way. But, there is another way to get more Twitter followers, but I don't recommend it, because I think it is simply inauthentic, but people can buy them. I don't know if it's because I'm in the industry and I know when people buy their Twitter followers, but when I see somebody with an obscene amount of Twitter followers, I'm like, “They are not a celebrity. How did they get all those Twitter followers?”

I will look and see who is following them, and they all have the same bio, like Baconlover or Soccermom, and you will notice after that there are a bunch of them. There was a whole article about it in the New York Times. To each his own. If you are a DJ and you want to get booked more, maybe it is more valuable to buy those Twitter followers and boost up your numbers. You just have to really figure out why you want those followers and if you want to be authentic or not.
