How do I keep a tankless hot water heater clean, or how do I clean it?
The first thing I want to show you is this water filter. Make sure that the
water going into the tankless is clean. With a tankless water heater it
makes water hot so fast that there is a small orifice that all the water passes
through. If that's plugged, this will shut off.
So the first step is make sure that the water going into the tankless water
heater is in line. If it isn't, you've got to take care of that first.
These little guys require maintenance. Once a year they have to be flushed
out with a vinegar and water solution that cleans out the heat exchanger
inside the tankless.
So every single tankless water heater will have ports like this and a
couple of shut-offs. It's not for the homeowner to really do. The job is a little
bit more complicated. You want to get a professional that's done it before.
Watch them a few times, but basically we're going to shut off a couple of
ports and open up a couple of hose connections, fill up a five gallon
bucket with a vinegar solution, pump it into the system and pump it out of
the system and then flush it all the way through.
