Hi. I'm Jennifer Durbin, and I've got some great tips for you for getting through security quickly at the airport with little ones in tow.
You may be pretty stressed out about getting through security with your little ones. Getting through security by yourself can be stressful, let alone with a stroller, a toddler, and an infant in arms. So there are a few things you can do to prep yourself for this trip to make it a lot easier.
So the first thing you want to do is keep security in mind when you're packing your bag. Anything that you're going to need to take out, like all of your liquids, any premixed formula, or medicines that you have, make sure they're in an easy-to-access zip top bag. That way you can just pull them out of your diaper bag, or your carry-on, and put them on the belt to go through the x-ray machine. That makes it so much easier.
You also want to make sure that if you're traveling with a child under two who will be sitting in your lap that your boarding pass says, "Infant in arms." When you get to security they'll be looking for that, if you have a little one in tow.
You also want to keep in mind that everything has to go through the x-ray machine. That means that you have to fully collapse your stroller. So when you get close to the front of the line, make sure you're taking your little ones out of the stroller and starting to collapse it so you're not doing everything at once.
What's nice is that TSA has recently changed their regulations so little ones under twelve no longer have to take their shoes off, so that's one thing you can check off of your list.
You'll also want to make sure for older children who understand what's going on, that they know that they're going to be going through security. Make a game of it. Tell them stories the night before about what it's going to be like to stand in the x-ray machine and put everything on that belt for it to be looked at by the agents. So that way they're looking forward to the experience, and it's kind of exciting for them.
Now once you get through security, triple check that you've picked up everything. The last thing you want to happen is to get on the plane and discover that your child's favorite lovey is back on the x-ray belt.
So relax, enjoy, do a little planning, and getting through security will be super easy.
