Hi. I'm Jennifer Durbin, and I've got some great tips for you on how to install a car seat.
When you get an infant carrier, it will come with two pieces: a base and the actual infant carrier. The base is what you will be installing in the car, and it's super easy. It does come with a pretty lengthy instruction manual, but it's very easy to follow.
Your car may even have anchors already installed in the seats, in which case all you're doing is attaching these little clips to the anchors and you're good to go. The infant carrier will then snap into the base, and that's that.
It is important that the car seat is installed properly. Most hospitals won't let you leave with the baby unless you have a properly installed car seat. So before you head to the hospital, make sure you have installed the car seat a week or two ahead of time, to give you a chance to stop by your local fire station, police station, or even a hospital to have someone check and make sure you've got it properly installed.
So when it's time to install your car seat, make sure you do so in a covered area if it's cold or raining or anything like that. It may take a little time the first time you try, so find a garage, a parking deck or even your own garage at home to install your car seat.
It's also a good idea to buy an extra base if you want to keep one in daddy's car, or if there's a nanny or someone who will be driving the baby around.
