How to Do an Advanced Salsa Dip

Learn how to do an advanced salsa dip with this Latin dance video from Howcast.

Ashley: Hey guys, it’s Ashley and Henry. Right now we’re going to show you a more advanced salsa dip. It’s a little more advanced on the female’s part, but we’re going to show you how to do the male and the female part. So, first we’ll demonstrate it for you coming out of the basic.

Henry: Yes, one, two, three, five, six, seven, one, two, three, five, six, seven, one, two, three, five, six, seven.

Ashley: Okay. So, now we’ll break it down. It’s basically just like everything, we’re starting from our basic. And so you have your one, two, three, five, six, seven. Now, I’m going to feel the gentleman lead me out so, I know I’m going to open. Right? And because we’re doing this advanced, you know your basics. So, you open out, right? Extend the arm fully. Now he’s going to give you a free spin. Ladies, you have to spin once to your left on your own. So, you’re spinning, as you spin you’re spotting him, right? Always keep contact with your gentleman. Now, I see a space. As he’s lifting his arm I’m going to connect through there. Now I have his back, he has my arm above, and I’m going to reach back and lean because now we’re in a really nice hold. There’s a lot of trust in this dip. So, just watch one more time coming out of the basic. Two, three, five, six, seven, one, two, three, I connect, five. Watch my left hand finding his shoulder so I know that I’m connected. Once I feel safe I can let go. From here we can come up, we can let the hips go first, or you can come up regular with the head first.

Henry: Guys, what you need to do is the lead and how to set up the dip. Okay. Because it’s mostly like a visual dip. The ladies will turn and they will hold you, and then you dip them. So, you do the basic step. Two, three, five, six, seven. By count number seven you wan to start sliding this hand so you’re tracing the lady’s hand so you can hold the hand with your right hand, and then with this one you can send them out. Now, the main thing with this move, guys, is that we’re the one who do this, the one who keep it salsa small. Yes? So, you’re connecting using your arm, right? You’re keeping you bicep engaged. Right? You don’t want to open it.

Ashley: Relax.

Henry: Keep it closed. From here, when you pull the lady they will respond into the spin that Ashley just told you. And guys, you’re going to bring your left arm up so they know there’s space foe them to hug you. Now, this is really important because here you can grab the lady’s back. No matter what happens, it’s going to be secure for them. In this case you can put the back of your forearm, yes, and you can give them here and you can send then back on the one, okay? You can put the hand on the lady’s shoulder as well. Yes? Wherever you feel comfortable depends on the lady’s size and your height. Okay? So, you want to have them all to yourself, as long as you connect with your partner. So, let’s do it one more time. So, it goes one, two, three, slide the hand in count number seven, you open. One, two, three, five, six, seven, one, and five, six, seven, and one, two, three.

Ashley: Something important for the girls to remember as you’re coming in. Once you’re coming from the open position, be aware of your left elbow that it’s not coming up. Yeah? Because that man is never going to ask you to dance again. So, make sure you find that space. You’re going right over his shoulder, and then everybody fits into place. Yeah? Let’s do it with music.

Henry: Five, six, seven, and one, two, three. So, you’re doing your basic. One, two, five, six, seven, and one, five, six, seven, one, five, six, seven, one. So, we’re doing a smooth version. We can also do it sharper, so in the way out. Five, six, seven, one, five, six, seven, one, five, six, seven, one. So, we have a little efficient, right? Let’s do it one more time. One, two, five, six, seven, one, five, six, seven, one, five, six, seven, one. And that’s your salsa dip.

Ashley: Advanced salsa dip.

Henry: Advanced salsa dip.
