How to Do Advanced Funky Footwork in Latin Fusion Dance

Learn how to do advanced funky footwork with this Howcast Latin dance video.

Ashley: Hey, this is Ashley and Henry with the Latin Fusion, and right now we’re going to be teaching you some funky footwork, advanced.

Henry: So, we will demonstrate for you first, and then we’re going to break it down for you.

Ashley: Here we go. And one, two, three, and four, five, six, seven, and eight. Okay? So let’s break that down. You’re crossing over with the right foot in front, tap, tap, side. You’re going to go behind. One, side, three. Then we’re going to step together, tap together, and open, and we’re going to go back, same feeling, one, two, three. Okay? So now, what’s really happening: we’re just stepping front and side, back side front, together and open, back side front.
Now, you want to make it funky, you don’t want to just make it steps. So, we’re going to lean into it. We’re going to lean back and forward. Stay down. And lean in, with the hips, down and front. Okay?

So let’s go from the top, put together a little bit faster before we go with the music. Here we go. And, front, side, back side front and front. And back side front. That was great.

Henry: Important part, guys. Here, when you’re doing it, when you step forward, step back, like, I should say, make sure that your head stays in the same spot and you let your body move from side to side. Yeah? So that creates a cool effect of everything’s moving, but not your head. So, picture that. Picture facing something and you stay there. And let your hips and your legs go.

Ashley: And you want to think that we’re making Latin fusion, so you don’t want it to feel like hip-hop, you don’t want it to feel just like house. You’re rocking with hips, you want to make that sure you’re really using those hips. Okay? Let’s try it with the music. Five, six, five, six, seven, and. One, two, three and four, five, six, seven and eight. Good, let’s try it again. Five, six, seven, and. One, two, three and four, five, six, seven and eight. Do it one more time facing away. Five, six, five, six, seven, and. One, two, three and four, five, six, seven and eight.

Henry: And that’s your funky footwork at advanced in the Latin Fusion series.
