5 Risk Factors for Heart Disease

Learn what are the five risk factors for heart disease from Dr. Dennis Finkielstein in this Howcast video.

So what are the risk factors for heart disease? That's something we all want to know. Some of the things we can control, or what we call modifiable risk factors, and some we can't control. Those would be the inherited risk factors. Again, you can't choose your parents, so you couldn't use your genes, but there are a lot of things we can control. And the most common risk factors, unfortunately, are pretty common in Western lifestyle.

One would be smoking, another would be high-fat diet, a third would be lack of exercise, and a fourth would be a high-stress life. Okay, so we're in in luck, because although the risk factors are pretty common in our lifestyle, modifying them leads to a really great impact, and we can see the results in a short period of time. So if you were to increase exercise, stop smoking, make healthier choices with our diet, and leave some time for relaxation, doctors and yourself can see some great results and you can end up with a much lower risk for heart disease going on. And those would be some of the main risk factors for heart disease.
