Alright. Kili's going to show you how a parrot can go down a slide.
The key to teaching this trick is to use your target stick to teach the parrot the motions of going up the ladder and to go down the slide.
Some parrots will get scared of going down the full length of the slide. Sometimes you might want to just grab them and start shallow, and just have them go a little bit.
Good bird. You give them a treat for coming down.
You can practice by having them mid-slide and then let go and let them come down. Give them their treat. Then, you can get to the stage where you have them at the top and you target them to come on down.
It's usually not this easy with birds the first few days or even weeks of the slide. They might be a little bit scared about the speed and about coming down. It's just a matter of practicing and not taking them further up the slide until they're ready to come down.
Once they're ready, you can get rid of the target stick and just put them down on it and they roll down. Give them that treat.
Finally, since parrots like to climb ladders, it doesn't take much effort at all to target them up the ladder to get up to the top of the slide.
Where you need a little more emphasis is to get them to come down. They need to be a bit motivated and want to follow that target stick, but then they'll take the plunge.
That's how you teach a parrot to go down a slide.
