Hi. My name is Shane Paul O'Neil from City Coast Multi-Sport and I'm here to talk to you today about what is sprinting. Track and field basically classifies sprinting as anything from 60 meters up to 400 meters. Unlike distance running, sprints are designed by effort over a short period of time. The races tend to be very much demanding in terms of technique and speed.
Sprinters are generally defined by being a bit more muscular than distance runners and they tend to have more explosive movements. If you were to liken them to other sports, they may be a running back in football or a shortstop in baseball. Unlike distance runners who tend to be more moderately framed, they are more equipped for longer distance and moderate effort overall. That's pretty much the definition of sprinting.
