How to Have Good Manners with Faye de Muyshondt

Learn about Faye de Muyshondt, one of Howcast's etiquette experts, in this video.

Hi, I am Faye de Muyshondt and I'm the founder of Social Sklz, a business based in New York City, which offers modern day social interaction and communication skills for kids and young adults. We also cover good old-fashioned manners and etiquette. I founded the program a little over three years ago and I started teaching this subject matter quite some time ago. My background is public relations, so I used to media train a number of different clients and that's how I conducted these three day-long media sessions, I would always say that everyone could benefit from these types of lessons. Lessons including, how to make a good first impression, how to shake hands, how to start and maintain conversations? And fast forward a few years, I started teaching at New York University and at Fordham graduate School of business and I saw that a lot of my students were in fact missing these really vital skills, that we all need to succeed in life.

I developed a class at New York University and I titled it, The brand called you and it covered everything from making a good first impression to shaking hands to presentation skills to ways to get rid of excessive use of the words like and you know. And, generally speaking, you and your own brand and how you represent yourself day today. Let's face it, the closest lesson that most of us get to how we come across to other people, is a chiding remark from your parent or a very critical remark from a loved one on nagging and pestering and what I wanted to do is, really put this into a classroom format, just as we learn science and maths and any other subject matter, why not really learn how to have great social interactions and communication skills. You use these skills for the rest of your life. As part of my work with social skills, I also contribute regularly on the today show. I'm also the author of, Social Skills for Success, which has been called the cutting edge must read manual.
