If you're looking to improve your basketball game, here are my top three tips. Confidence, work ethic, and durability.
It's very important to be confident in your ability to succeed on the court. If you're not confident in your own ability, no one else will. And your confidence will really enable you to take your game to the highest level possible. So you really want to have confidence that you are one of the best players, and can be the best player on the court at all times. Because if you really believe that, then that will show in your game.
Secondly, work ethic. Work ethic, work ethic, and more work ethic. You have to work on your game like you want to be the best player on the court at all times. You want to be the best player in the world. You don't want to just be the best player in your block. You don't want to just be the best player in your neighborhood. You don't want to just be the best player in your school. You don't want to be the best player in your league. You want to train to be the best player in the world. And you want to train to be the best player to your own physical capabilities, which means that you have to work to exhaustion. When you go into the gym everyday to work on your game, there's no time limit. You can't say I'm going to go in the gym at 3:00 and stay till 4:00. You can't say I'm going to go in the gym and start at 3:00 and stay until 5:00. You have to say to yourself, when I go in the gym at 3:00, I'm not leaving until I get the job done. I'm not leaving until I feel like I've become the best player that I could be on this particular day. So your work ethic has to exceed everybody else's that you can imagine.
And finally, durability. You want to try to make yourself as injury as prone as possible, because no matter how much confidence you have, and no matter what type of work ethic you have, none of that really matters if your body is not in tip top shape to be able to handle the rigors of basketball training.
So in order to be the most durable player as possible, you have to make sure, one, you eat right. You eat smart. You take care of your body. You proper strength training. And one of the things that's really overlooked by a lot of basketball players is flexibility training. You want to be able to have very good flexibility, because that will also enable you to play through injuries at times, and most importantly, enable you to avoid injuries.
So again, my top three basketball tips are confidence, work ethic, and durability.
