Hey guys. We're going to learn how to do a mapes jump today. So, starting out with a mapes jump, you're going to jump from backwards, rotating to the left and landing backwards. It's all going to be from your right foot. And you're going to use your left toe stop. So, stand on your right foot rolling backwards, arms in an L position; left hand in front, right hand to the side, left toe in front. As you open, you're going to place your left toe on the ground pointing forward. Bending as you lift, your right knee comes forward. Your right arm twists around making your rotation. Landing on your right skate, your left foot comes forward, and a nice pretty landing at the end. Make sure to check your rotation by stopping your core. So, from the side, standing on your right, left foot in front, open, place your toe forward, lift that knee, rotate, land. And there you go. So this is what it looks like rolling.
So that is how you do a mapes jump. And the more rotations you do will turn into a double or a triple mapes. Just make sure you always keep your knees bent. Don't lift your chest back because that's when you'll land on your heels and fall to the backside. So always make sure knees bent, chest straight up and down. And that's how you do a mapes jump.
