How to Mentally Prepare for a Bowling Tournament

Learn how to mentally prepare for a bowling tournament from former PBA touring player Mike D'Ambrosio in this Howcast bowling video.

How do you prepare for a competition or a tournament? The first thing you'll want to do is get a mental rehearsal of how you want to perform on that stage. So to properly prepare for a tournament or a competition setting, what I try to do is I try to have a mental rehearsal before I even get on the lanes and get an idea of how I want to perform and what I want out of it. It's all positive; it's positive feedback, it's positive thoughts. You also want to practice properly and prepare yourself, which will give you a better feel and more confidence going into that kind of setting.

Entering a competition, besides strong practice, quality practice, you want to look at it as an environment that's not so foreign. It's another day, it's another time of bowling, and you want to go into it with an open mind. You don't want to put any expectations on it; at the same time, you want to go out there and win. You want a positive outlook entering that environment.

When you're in a competition and something goes wrong or you have interference or maybe you're just not having a good game, you want to make sure you shake it off and you have a good, positive outlook and just get right back on it. Make sure you relax and enjoy it and do it for the fun of it and also create some goals for yourself to be able to keep yourself focused. And those are some ways to prepare for competition and for your next tournament.
