For starters if you're a beginner, you're not sure how to skate you should probably have elbow pads, knee pads, wrist guards and a helmet. Now if you're an experienced and you wanna go hit the park you should definitely be wearing a helmet. No matter how good of a skateboarder you are you should always wear your helmet. Even Tony Hawk wears his helmet when he's competing at the X Games. It's very important.

It's a crucial of gear. If you're cruising down the street, you're an experienced skater you may not need to wear your helmet especially if you're familiar with how you can fall and protect your body. Now in terms of gear, you wanna always check your set up before you go and leave the house. Make those wheels aren't too loose, unless you like it like that. Make sure all your bolts are nice and tight, everything's on just right. Make sure your wheels are spinning, that's pretty important. Make sure you're happy with the setup overall. There aren't any bumps in the grip tape.

There's not a lot of dirt in there. That you don't have too much razor tail, you might be losing some pop like that. Also check your trucks. Make sure everything is as tight or as loose as you like it to be. It's very important that when you go out and skate you're comfortable with your ride. And that how you know how to check your setup.
