How to Set the New Touch ID on an iPhone

Learn how to set the new Touch ID on an iPhone in this Howcast video.

Hi, Lisa here and I'm going to show you how to set up the new Touch ID. You'll go ahead to your settings and you'll scroll down and go to General. You'll scroll again and you'll see Touch ID and Passcode.

So tap on that. You'll have to enter in your regular pass code first. Once you've done that, you'll have the option to tap on Touch ID and then you can say Add a Fingerprint. So from here, it'll tell you to place your finger onto the button. So I'll use it with my thumb. Now, as you press, it then vibrates to tell you to lift your finger and press it down again. This way, it's getting all the different parts of your fingerprint. So I just continue to press until it tells it it's done. Now, it's telling me to adjust my grip so it wants me to get the sides of my fingers as well, in case I grab it from sort of a sideways angle. So I'll put the different parts of my thumb on it, and you can see the little pink lines filling in all the spots.

You just keep going like this until it says it's complete. Once it's done you hit continue and now you're able to use that finger to unlock your phone. So we'll lock it, press once on the home button, and leave your finger there, and already unlock again. It's that fast. So that's how you set up the new Touch ID on your iPhone 5S.
