Learn about alternatives to diamonds for engagement rings from private jeweler Kate Hemphill in this Howcast video.
I want to talk a little bit alternative stone options for engagement rings. There’s no rules as to what an engagement ring should be, and you don’t have to buy a diamond. So if a diamond’s not for you, perhaps you can consider a sapphire, a ruby, an emerald (except emeralds are a little soft, so it’s not great for everyday use). You could also consider a semiprecious stone: a tourmaline or a topaz.
Whichever suits your style and your personality. You can have fun with it, you can have three different colors if you want. This one is a peridot with pink sapphires. This stone is a blue sapphire with yellow diamonds. It’s a beautiful color combination. Or something totally different, like this mint green tourmaline with yellow diamond pavet. If you want a really big look, but you’re on a tight budget, you can always go for a white sapphire or a topaz like this pear shaped with platinum and pavet diamonds underneath. So those are just a few options for alternative stones for engagement rings.
The possibilities really are endless. It’s really up to you, but make it special and unique.
