What Is Labiaplasty?

Find out what a labiaplasty is from plastic surgeon Robert J. Morin, M.D. in this Howcast video.

We're discussing labiaplasty, which is commonly known as surgery that is performed on the inner lips of the vagina. In certain individuals, there is an excess of normal, vaginal tissue within the external portion of the vagina, which is known as the labia or labia minora or labia majora. By excising a portion of this tissue, the excess external vagina is removed and the contouring of the external vagina and the aesthetic appearance of the external vagina is improved. In addition, by removing this excess tissue, the tissue does not interfere with sexual intercourse.

And while that may have been the case in the past, by getting rid of this tissue, the tissue does not enter the vaginal canal and does not get involved or create friction during intercourse. Therefore, both women and men report that satisfaction during sexual intercourse increases after having labiaplasty surgery. So that is basically what it means to have labiaplasty surgery.
