Hi! My name is Stephanie Patorick and I'm a writing instructor with Gotham writer's workshops. When I was a kid my family used to tease me and call me the "Great Corrector" because I was always correcting their grammar.
As you can imagine I was a really fun kid at parties but that early love of language and detail lead me to a really fun and amazing career as a professional writer and editor. I've worked as a reporter for newspapers like the Arizona Republic and the Wall Street Journal and I currently write and edit and work as a media consultant for a variety of publications like Glamour, Ad Week, Bankrate.com and the Best American Poetry Series.
A little bit more about Gotham writer's workshops, we host an array of creative writing classes throughout the city of New York and also online at Gothamwriters.com. You can take classes in poetry, fiction and even grammar, which is what I happen to teach. I love teaching grammar classes because we live in an age when writing is so important to what we do. If you think about it, chances are you are writing throughout your day. You are sending emails to your bosses or family members. You are updating your Facebook and Twitter pages and you're texting your friends. So I think now more than ever the primary way that we communicate is through writing and as a professional writer it gives me a lot of joy to be able to pass along what I've learned in my career to people in all kinds of careers. I really hope that the viewers of this How Cast Series will feel educated and empowered by these lessons and that they'll be able to take what they have learned here and use it in every aspect of their lives, personal, professional.
