How to Adopt a Pig

Learn how to adopt a pig in this Howcast video featuring Ross Mill Farm president Susan Magidson.

If you're looking for a pet pig, and you want to adopt, you can go to the Pig Placement Network website. There's applications there and there's lots of information that you should read before you fill out that application. We want to be sure that your home is zoned to have a potbelly pig, that you own it so you don't have any landlord problems. You also want to be sure that you have a veterinarian that's going to be able to take care of them, that can be a major problem in something that people are quite surprised that veterinarians don't always take care of pet pigs. So have those all ready and then read all the information that you can about pet pigs on our website and other places as well. Fill out the application and we'll try to find a pet pig for you that's as close as possible to where you're living. Pigs require a lot of time so you really need to be in a place in your life where you have time to spend with this animal. It requires attention and it hates being home alone so somebody should always be around or most often. You can also check Craigslist and other places on the internet to see if you can find somebody who needs to find a home for their pet pig. Don't be afraid to adopt an older pig. Piglets are cute but they're a handful and they require special attention. When you're looking for a pet pig be sure to do your homework and that you don't believe everything that you read online.
