Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Demo - Part 5 [Commentary] [HD]

Check out this online demo of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (Part 5), the action RPG from 38 Studios & Big Huge Games.

Rock troll: I detest the mortal flesh.

Commentator: Oh. boy. Big guy.

Ow! Rock troll. Okay. Can I sprint here? Yeah. Okay. Whoa! Just dodge around the ruins.

There we go. I just made him angry, I think.

Yep. Oap. Run, run run!

I just got a lot of health. Ow! Way more health then me. I have a magic thing too.

All right. We're gonna hit left, and use the healing potion. Looks like it heals you up all the way. That's nice.

All right, so this seems like your standard charging thing that you dodge away from.

Let's go around that circle. Ow! Okay. He's got good timing.

Yeah, you like fire? You like fire? Whoop. Hm.

There does seem to be a bit of a wind-up on the dodge move, so you kind of have to plan a little bit ahead. And I'm not sure if that time dilation effect was the game trying to accentuate it or just the frame rate getting a little spotty.

Whoop. Seems like a little bit of both, actually. Ow! Run. Dodge.

Geez, he's got a ton of health. Yah!

Yeah. Okay. So, I mean, I would hit the circle about three times before he actually hit me there, but didn't respond right away. And we're dead.

But we can resurrect. Oh, right, because we're that...We're the guy that didn't die.

And there's the God of War influence. Triangle me. Oh, more at speed.

So it's got a...Well, that's one way to incentivize the quick-time events, I guess.

Wait, can I loot it? A ring! All right. Now, you can pick which finger.

Does it matter? Just wear it.

And we got some shards.

We made it! We are outside of the starter dungeon.

Let me guess, there's a town with a bunch of quests and a hub.

We can level up now, too. So we've got a bunch of different kinds of skills here.

I'm gonna select detect hidden, because I like having information on my map.

Wow! I mean really, wow! We've got a World of Warcraft style talent tree here.

I'm gonna focus on my staff, I think.

Remy: Another survivor? But...I've never seen you in the tower.

Commentator: I kind of blinked out of existence there before talking.

Remy: Were you one of the professor's assistants in the downstairs projects? Did he escape with you?

Commentator: Uh.

Remy: That sounds like him. Professor Hugues was very thoughtful.

I mean, "is." He is very thoughtful! I'm sure he found a way to get out. He must have.

Commentator: And that's it for now.

Remy: We should be safe here. At least, a little longer.

Claude: I saw you fight in there. We could have used more of you.

Commentator: We're switching it up, and we're making the gnomes the Scottish ones, instead of the dwarves.

Claude: Did they really have a troll?

I don't know how the Tuatha found us, but if they had a troll, it couldn't have been an accident.

Fate was kind to collapse that doorway behind you, or they would have chased us into the glade.

Goodbye. Good luck out there.

Commentator: We have no active quest. I don't think that's supposed to happen in a game like this.

Hm. Well. No reagents found. So you can fail the flower picking. Interesting.

Dive. Minor bleeding resistance. Uh, I bet you didn't know that this is the world's only hemophiliac hero.

These are some tough rats. Looks like they won't...Oh, I'm out of arrows.

Good thing I upgraded my stave, so that doesn't run out.

So there does seem to be a bit of a combo-like system in that, the damage goes up for each successive strike.

Smash. Let's try to force it. Nope. That broke a lock pick. Nope. Nope. Okay.

I'll play your game. All right we're using...Oh, yeah...Yep, we're using one analog stick, to adjust the position, and the other to move the slider across the very familiar...
Cause I mean Elder Scrolls players. And that broke a lock pick. How about the in the middle here? How about a little to the left? And once it gets all the way to the right, we get our stuff.

Uh, let's dispel this ward. Hm. All right, we have to break all the Glyphs before they reseal.

All right. That didn't work. Not sure what's going on with that.

Straight down the middle, always a good guess.

Kind of want to try that ward dispelling thing again, but it blew up, so I can't. Hm.

Maybe now's a good time to look into the save system.

Okay, that's a short explanation because there doesn't seem to be one.

Hm. Well, better luck next time.

Agarth: You've come from the tower, haven't you?

Name's Agarth. Maybe you can help an old Fateweaver, eh?
