How to Make Mulled Cider
Nothing takes the chill out of a brisk night like this winter favorite.
Instructions
- Step 1: Boil cider, sugar, cinnamon, cloves & allspice Pour the cider and brown sugar into a large pot. Add the cinnamon, cloves, and allspice. Bring it to a boil.
- TIP: Tying the cinnamon, cloves, and allspice in cheesecloth makes straining at the end easier.
- Step 2: Simmer on low heat Once the mixture is boiling and the brown sugar has fully dissolved, lower the heat to a simmer.
- TIP: For extra zip, add the zest of one lemon.
- Step 3: Simmer for 30 minutes Allow the cider to simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Step 4: Strain into mugs & add alcohol When the cider is ready, turn off the heat and strain the mixture into four mugs. For an added kick, add a dash of rum, whiskey, or brandy--that'll really warm you up.
- FACT: Research shows that cloudy apple cider has much more antioxidants than the clear kind.
